Journeying Through Persuasion

  Week 9 (13th November to 17th November 2023)

Journeying Through Persuasion

My experience with persuasive writing has been both enlightening and humbling. The more I delve into its intricacies, the more I appreciate its dynamic nature. It's an ongoing journey of refining the art, learning from both successes and setbacks, and embracing the ever-evolving landscape of effective communication.

As I continue to hone my skills in persuasive writing, I'm reminded that its true power lies not just in convincing others but in fostering understanding, empathy, and collaboration. It's an art that, when wielded with integrity and empathy, has the potential to shape minds, inspire change, and leave a lasting impact on the world. And so, the journey of persuasive writing continues, an odyssey of words and influence that knows no bounds.

  1. Hi Kai, I am in total agreement with you. Learning about persuasive writing has also been a real eye-opener for me! It's like an ongoing adventure where I'm learning more and more about how to communicate and to convince others effectively using specific language and style. I've realized it's not just about convincing people but also about making them understand and work together. When we use persuasive writing with honesty and kindness, it can really make a big difference. It's like a journey with words that can change things for the better, and I'm excited to keep exploring. What are some ways in which we can get students to become excited and interested in learning about persuasive writing as we are?

    1. Great question Rowann, I always believe that Read Aloud and making the writing activities as fun filled and engaging as possible can help boost students. The writing workshop can definitely help there, and also allow students to choose their own topics to write on. Try debates or allow them to create advertisements and always share examples of strong persuasive pieces to the students.

  2. When making persuasive writing exciting for students it involves tapping into their interests, providing real-world relevance, and incorporating interactive and creative approaches.

  4. Kai I am elated that the sessions on Persuasive writing was enlightened for you. Personally for me, it is the hardest genre of writing and therefore as teachers we need to do alot of scaffolding and try the I do, we do and you do approach. It always work best when the teacher models the skill or concept, sets a very clear foundation and then the students practice with support and constant feedback. As I stated in my blog on Persuasive Writing I think I needed more practise to safely say that I am confortable in wriitng that genre of writing.
