The Last Lap

  Week 10 (20th to 24th November 2023)

In the enchanting world of children's writing, each scribble, every sentence, is a portal into the realm of untamed imagination. When  analyzing a child's writing through the 6+1 Writing Traits it offers us as teachers an overall view of their abilities and areas for growth. When nurturing these traits, we empower young writers to embark on a journey of self-discovery, where their voices resonate with authenticity, creativity, and the joy of expression. In unlocking the potential within each child, we not only develop skilled writers but also foster a lifelong love for the art of storytelling.

  1. Hi Kai, I love how you beautifully capture the essence of children's writing as a gateway to boundless imagination. The 6+1 Writing Traits serve as a compass, guiding teachers to nurture and cultivate young minds, unlocking their unique voices and fostering a love for storytelling. It's not just about crafting skilled writers but empowering these budding talents to embrace their creativity and authenticity. I believe, teaching students about the writing traits help them to be independent learners who take responsibility for their learning. I will definitely seek to implement these traits in my classroom. Is there any one trait that you believe is more important?

    1. I believe all the traits are important. Do you think having ideas alone will make the piece properly written? What if the ideas are all over the place would you undertsand the story? In fact I believe ideas and organization work hand in hand to get the writing clear and understandable .

  2. I believe ideas to be most important. This trait focuses on the content of the writing. Strong writing begins with clear and compelling ideas. As writers we need to generate interesting and relevant content that engages the reader.

  3. So true, I totally agree with you here. If there are no ideas, then there won't be content, or if they are, then it will be very scanty.
