Week 3 (2nd - 6th October 2023)
Have you
ever wondered how your favorite authors transform mere words into captivating
worlds, compelling characters, and unforgettable stories? The writing process
is the magical key that opens the door to their literary realms. Get ready to
embark on a writer's adventure you won't want to miss!
Understanding the sequential nature of writing, with its unique challenges and opportunities
at each stage, has given me a structured approach to my writing endeavors. One
aspect that particularly resonated with me was the emphasis on the importance
of pre-writing techniques. Exploring various brainstorming methods, mind
mapping, and free writing exercises has already proven beneficial. I have found
that these strategies help me organize my thoughts more effectively before I
start drafting. This newfound understanding of the pre-writing phase has
already improved the quality of my work. Also, learning about different editing
techniques and the value of seeking feedback from peers and mentors has given
me the confidence to refine and polish my work further.
The video below helped me to realize that writing is not just about putting words on paper but a multifaceted process that demands time and dedication. The sessions have inspired me to be more patient with my writing, knowing that the final product often emerges after several revisions and edits. Moreover, I'd like to see sessions that focus on overcoming common writing challenges, such as writer's block or time management. Practical tips and strategies for tackling these issues would be highly beneficial for all aspiring writers.
In conclusion,
this week's sessions on the writing process have been both informative and
inspiring. They have provided comprehensive insights into the writing journey,
enhanced my understanding of the various stages, and encouraged me to reflect
on my own writing practices. I eagerly look forward to future sessions that
continue to enrich my writing skills and knowledge.
I am glad that the session on the writing process has been valuable for you Kai! Understanding the intricacies of the writing journey, from pre- writing techniques to editing strategies is indeed essential for aspiring writers. Overcoming common challenges like writer's block and time management is something many writers struggle with. What specific strategies do you currently use to tackle these issues and are there any areas where you feel you need more guidance or support?
ReplyDeleteKai it is true that we focus so much on writing process, that we failed to identify what causes writers not to be able to produce good pieces of writing. I would love to have a session also to see what the experts do to help these writers, and tips I can use in the classroom. Thanks for the video on the writing process, as I navigated through my colleagues' blog, I am viewing and adding to my archive the various videos and suggestions. These I will capitalize on and use when I return to the classroom.
ReplyDeleteYou know, those words you uttered have long since tickled my curiosity, “how do your favorite authors transform mere words into captivating worlds, compelling characters, and unforgettable stories?” It seems like a magic trick, doesn’t it? Like an unattainable feat, to weave all those simple ideas into a tapestry of literary perfection, one that cements itself in your mind decades later. It definitely makes me ponder about the headache in between the simple words and the masterpiece at the end.
ReplyDeleteOn another note, I am definitely in agreement with you about the crucial importance of the prewriting stage. I remember when Miss drew the concept map on the board and asked us, “How does this help to prepare the kids for writing?” I couldn’t help but think about the many times I was guilty of inadequately preparing my kids. That moment resonated with me, which is why I am in full agreement with your stance, and which is also the reason why I will be “doing the most” to accommodate and prepare the little people in my care to be ready to write.
Hi Kai, I really enjoyed the video. I agree that when writing is broken into manageable parts, it makes the writing task less stressful to the students. Students do not like to write; they see writing as plenty of work and sometimes they really do not know what to write. But by breaking up the task into the different stages and providing students with meaningful activities that can help with brainstorming and producing ideas, the task becomes lighter for them. Once they have gotten pass the prewriting stage successfully, the other steps in the process with follow.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the video on the writing process. The writing process is one that I am still not comfortable with and your video helped. As mentioned in my blog on the writing process I do think that I have been holding back my students in the whole pre-writing,revising and editing part of the writing process. Kai, as you rightly stated the sessions we had were enlightened and heightened my understanding also. I do hope I can implement it in the classroom appropriately. It is time consuming but it is worth it.
ReplyDeleteRowann you said that students see writing as too much work and do not like to write I do agree with you however the onus is on teachers to make it as interactive and fun filled. Sometimes we approach writing negatively which sometimes rubs off on our students. We think it is too much work to mark writing pieces and sometimes no immediate feedback is given to the students. I am guilty of it sometimes. We have been given the opportunity to heighten our knowledge in the teaching area. Let us all embrace it and make a difference in our students lives. Let us make the creative writing class fun and memorable. We are already on the right path.
